Mirabilia's Tigerlily - Fabric Question
[info]sterlingirl wrote in [info]cross_stitch
One of my Christmas gifts from hubby was the Tigerlily pattern from Mirabilia. This evening, when I was searching for something to work on, he said, "What about the one I picked out for you?" And since I can take a hint, I took a peek at my stash to see if I have everything needed to kit it up. No worries on the threads as it calls for DMC. There are a few options listed for fabric.

-32 or 28 count antique white jobelan
-32 count French Lace linen

I have 32 count antique white linen in my stash. How big is the colour difference from jobelan to linen? Close enough do you think? I never can tell from computer images.

Thanks for any input!

Argh...

So...finally worked up my nerve to prep my fabric and set up my project to work on the Teresa Wentzler "Woodland Faerie." I was set. I might actually finish this before my mother's 70th birthday...

And the fabric doesn't fit on my frame...I deliberately went larger than recommended so I'd have lots of room for framing...so I have to go buy a new frame...and put off working on the project for a few days. ARGH!

My stitching goals for 2110
[info]schuldich2278 wrote in [info]cross_stitch
Since I didn't get much stitching done in 2009 because I was in college. However now that I graduated I have more time to stitch (while I'm applying for jobs) :).

First project to finish is my first gridded project. It's for myself and it's a unicorn piece.
Second on my to do list is a HAED design that my niece wants - "Bringer of Light"
Third is a Light House kit from the Dimesions Gold Collection (hopefully a christmas present for my mom)
Fourth is a Dragon and Wizard piece that my son wants - Again from the Dimesions Gold Collection

After all that, a baby announcement for my baby niece that was born last year....if my sister picks any out.

Not much overall, but they are all big pieces.

If I get all that done I'll start on some other projects...I have a lot on my HAED wish list, and Mystic stitch has a few that I like....We'll see how it goes.

I'll post pics of WIP's and finishes

My first post...

Hello everyone!
I've been a member of this community for a few months now and I've commented on a few posts, but I have never made an actual post. (Until now...lol!)
Quite honestly, I've been a little intimidated to post anything.  Everyone here is very talented and create some amazing things.

I mainly work on small projects, because I have a short attention span...
But I'm planning on doing some larger things for 2010.

My Stitching Goals for 2010
[info]whitestitch wrote in [info]cross_stitch
Hmm...I don't have many.

  1. Finish Jem's Baby gift

  2. Finish bookmarks for the book club (3 of 3 to complete)

  3. Finish or make a good headway in BOINK

  4. Complete the other commissions that come in

To Purchase:

  1. Moon Fairy by Mirabilia - It will be my first one. I am excited & scared at the same time. I saw this one {http://www.flickr.com/photos/spiritblooms/4236996799/in/set-72157602267737763/ } & immediately fell in love with the design. I can get the chart for about $12, so I just have to save my money.

  2. A Britty Kitty Design - Don't care which one, but I want one, lol.

See, not that many. But they are important to me, lol.

Whiskers [wip]
[info]yacoba wrote in [info]cross_stitch
As promised, I have another progress picture of Whiskers for you.

as of noon today )

Out of curiosity/boredom/I'm really Really easily amused I decided to figure out how long it would take me to finish this pattern if I worked 8 hours a day [on average I work many Many more ^_~]

Forgetting changing thread, pulling mistakes, dealing with knots at 8 hours a day I'd get it completed in 29 days.

I found out that [info]neekabe and I look at two different things when gaging the size of a pattern so I was curious to see what everyone else does. [question should cause less confusion now]

I only look at the size of the overall pattern in inches [most of my patterns are around 13' by whatever]

Where as [info]neekabe takes into account the number of stitches for the pattern.

Which do you prefer?

i've was on a two day stitching marathon over the new year's weekend, that plus there was a day when i couldn't do anything involving my left hand  because [info]anneebrat 's back porch steps tried to kill me new year's eve (no it's not broken, just badly bruised and sore).

so first off, my stitching resolutions for 2010 (drumroll please)...i don't really have any besides finishing "koi to neko" and doing a ringbearer's pillow for [info]anneebrat 's wedding. seeing i am her planner, coordinator, matron of honor and keeper of her sanity, my plate is full. i might sneak in a few little projects if the wedding doesn't become all consuming.

second, here is the subject of my stitching marathon:

I am very sad...

One of my favourite online fabric shops - Enchanted Fabrics has just announced that they are closing down due to personal reasons.

I have bought several pieces from Lori over the past 18 months or so, and now must try to decide what fabric I need before she goes.

That means 2 hand dyed fabric shops have closed in the past 2 years :( So sad :(

Self-described as "a little community with a lot of rage," you can soak up impassioned vibes and read blistering exposes detailing sexist attitudes in the news, pop culture, and science! A must-join community if you are, or love, a feminist. (NB: the topic of whether a "man" can be a feminist is outside the scope of this spotlight, but will probably wind up on the Writer's Block.)

My 2009 year in review, (or, OMG I can't believe I found the time)
[info]jessmonster wrote in [info]cross_stitch
Is there still room on the bandwagon? I finally managed to put together the 2009 roundup post with the most significant projects I completed in 2009. These are not all cross stitch, and unbelieveably this is not a complete list since there were a bunch of ornaments etc that I didn't bother linking. It looks like so much more than I thought when they are all listed like this! I have two small kids under 5 at home and a job, so now I'm not sure when I finished these-- chalk it up to stitching being my sanity time. All thumbnails should be clickable to the larger version, unless I screwed it up.

[info]littleblueghost and I have been talking about having a stitchy meeting in Melbourne (Australia) and I've managed to organise somewhere!

When: Sunday, 17th January
Time: 1pm-5pm
Where: The Morris and Sons store in Melbourne, located at Level 1, 234 Collins St (for anyone who knows it, above Dymocks, next to the British shop)

Apparently the store does free tea and coffee, but I don't know that they'd be keen on food (though we can see how we go with that).

I think it'd be a great opportunity to meet other people in the community - I'm so proud of how far this community has come since 2002, and I'd love to meet some of the people that make this place so wonderful :)

Anyone interested in coming along?

couple of questions...
[info]hopefuldark wrote in [info]cross_stitch
if something is 8x8 on 14 count, how big will it be on 18 count?

How often do you shrink down pictures, and how often does it turn it well?

when working on a "big" project, and finding youself having to frog more than an inch worth of stitches... how long do you leave the tails of the ripped things? (on the backside, to hold down the stitching, like tails of the end of a strand?)

when working on a "big" project, and having to rip out over an inch of stitches (square) - how discouraged do you get, and have you ever had a hard time picking it back up again?

2009 in review & 2010 plans
[info]chanda_m wrote in [info]cross_stitch
In 2009 I didn't have as much stitching time as I used to. My baby daughter was born in January and since them my time is no longer my own. Nonetheless, looking back at the year, I got a lot more done in 2009 than I thought I had. What really sticks out from my review of 2009 is just how many simple designs I created in 2009. I hope I will continue to be inspired to create more into the future.

My plans for 2010 are not very ambitions. I will soon be the mum to a toddler and I expect I will be busy running after her. Plus, there are those grubby, sticky little fingers that want to touch everything. So we'll see how much time I actually get...

Enough talking. Onto the pictures! CLICK TO ENTER MY 2009 GALLERY & 2010 PLANS )

I completed two of the Ink Circles ornament patterns before Christmas. Haven't yet finished them. Not sure yet how I'll finish Reindeer Huddle. Sherbet Flake I plan to fold the corners in, in the same way I think that Tracy finished hers in Gift of Stitching.

Sherbet Flake from Nov 2009 Gift of Stitching. Done on 32 count Belfast Linen, PTP Crystal Sterling, using Dinky Dyes silks #7 (Mother of Pearl) and #87 (Yallingup).
